Any discerning person, saved or unsaved, believer or non-believer, can tell that the world is in deep trouble. From the horrors of terrorism to incredibly extreme weather anomalies, it is quite clear that we are living in desperate times. For the disciple of Christ, it is unmistakable that these are the times the bible calls the end of days.
In such evil days, the need to be firmly rooted in Christ is exceedingly evident. As the wickedness of man grows, it is easy to become disillusioned and discouraged, but for those who have chosen Jesus as their Lord and Savior, we must stand firm on His Word.
God expects His people to stand despite all the mess and distress that surrounds us. Disciples don't pack up and go running for the hills. When trouble comes in like a flood, the devoted disciple holds tight to the hand of God and is anchored to His word. Ephesians 6:13 says, "Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm."
So how do we stand? Is standing firm really even possible? What is this armor of God? Can we truly resist? Check in tomorrow as we delve deeper to answer these pertinent questions.
If you have been a Christian for any amount of time, you know that there is much more to it than just praying the prayer of salvation. To truly be who God expects you to be, you must cross into discipleship.
Jesus said to his disciples in Matthew 16:24, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." The authentic Christian life is boiled down to these words. We must deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Jesus wholeheartedly. Galatians 5:24 tells us, "Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." Translation: If we want to be disciples, then we must be so devoted to Christ, that we put Him first in and above all things.
So, this leads us to a glaringly obvious fact: Being a disciple is HARD. God gives us the grace and the power to do so, but as long as we are living on this earth, in this "flesh," we are going to have to fight to be a truly devoted disciple.
That's where this blog comes in. Being a devoted disciple is a journey and it is a mission. As we embark on this journey together to fulfill this mission, this blog will provide biblical truths, inspiration, encouragement, support, conviction, and valuable resources and information to make this journey less painful and more joyful.
We have been blessed not only with salvation, but with relationship. Our adoption is complete and we are now co-heirs with Christ. Nothing we have done or could ever do could secure the place we now have in God through Christ Jesus. We have given our lives over to an incredible, powerful, awesome and holy God. Let us rejoice as we strive to be his most devoted disciples!
